The figure seated in the lotus position with crystal inlaid eyes and third eye; metal crown, bead jewelry and ornamentation; and hands held in Vajra Mudra. Exquisitely all hand carved Japanese Ainu bear with stand. In excellent condition, it is signed by the artist and dated 1945. (More recent bears are carved using machine tools). The bear and stand are two different pieces, each made with one piece of wood. Bear measures approximately 11" long x 7.5" high. Stand measures 14" x 7.5"and 1 inch high.

Impressive and beautiful statue of Nikko Bosatsu, the bodhisattva of solar radiance (Suryaprabha). Joint wood block construction (yozegi zukuri)with gold leaf and lacquer. The mandorla inscription says: Bunsei period (Edo), 9th. year, february 9, 1826. The bodhisattvas Nikko and Gekko are the attendants of Yakushi Nyorai, the Buddha of healing. Seated Shaka Buddha with hands placed centrally on the lap in the jo-in concentration mudra, sculpted from wood and finished in lacquer and gilt, the eyes of inset crystal. Late-Muromachi Period/Momoyama Period ca. 1550–1600. Fully intact ensemble, including an elaborate pierced-work mandorla, in entirely original condition, showing minor points of old loss and desirable patination overall.
