An outstanding Edo period armor of russet iron with the character Kaname (the pivotal Point) hammered out from the chest plate. It features a 28 plate sofukurin Suji Kabuto with wide Kasa-shikoro bearing the Maru-ni crest on the turned back fukigaeshi. An Umigame sea turtle (symbol of long life) sits astride the Kuwagata maedate. A beautifully restored Edo period suit of black lacquered Nerikawa armor featuring a spectacular iron mask. THe black lacquered helmet bowl is supplanted with a leather wrapped mabizashi and five lame Hineno-Shikoro curving to fit the shoulders. Astride the helmet is a gilded dragon with glass eyes. Here is a wonderful pair of silver-inlaid iron abumi (stirrups) with red lacquered interiors. The abumi are kaga inlaid with butterflies and peony buds. Silver inlaid characters read in translation: "Made by Masahige from Kaga Province, Kanazawa Town." The abumi are in good condition for their age, exhibiting normal wear. Black lacquer laced with white leather makes for a striking presentation om this all matching collapsible armor dating from the Edo period. The helmet is a chochin kabuto with original locking bar. It features a hanpo mask and Do of rectangular plates with a belt of Kusazuri hanging from loops at the waist. An unusual Ryoku Odoshi Ni-Mai-Do Gusoku armor of pleated horizontal plates and Armadillo scale mae-ate reminiscent of the leather covers on the front of older O-yoroi with an inscription inside the box lid attesting the armor to the property of Prince Arisugawa Taruhito. Antique haidate(Echu style), samurai's thigh guard, with metal pieces and chain on stencil dyed (katazome) cotton. The metalwork is older, probably from the 17th to 18th century. This was probably remade sometimes later in the Meiji period. Dimensions are 21 1/4” wide and 21 3/4" long with ties on both sides.
