Rare Japanese full length long rifle. Finely executed hiramaki lacquer of a coiling dragon. The small bore shows that this long rifle (tanegashima), was an arm made for display or the shooting of small game. Most likely owned by a Shogun of a major clan in Japan around early 17th century.
The piece is in near perfect condition, ranking in the top 95% percentile of Japanese matchlock arms.
Signed by a famous arms maker Ishikawa, in the town of As Shu, Zae Mun

The size of Sword: whole length 28" Long, Tsuka 7" Long, Blade 19" Long, Tsuba 2 7/8" L x 2 3/4" W. It is Wakizashi length, Sho-Tou. It has very nice fittings of Tsuba with Cranes design in relief work. Tsuba made with metal alloy. Fuchi and Kashira are with Dragon design, made with copper. Menuki also with dragon design. An Edo period iron Go-Mai-Do Armor in black lacquer signed in a gold tablet Myochin Munechika under the right arm. It features a 24 plate Suji Kabuto in Sabiji-nuri wih black lacquered Shikoro threaded with blue and orange with white piping (matching that on the Nodokake, Sode and Kusazuri). A shibuichi, eight-lobed tsuba with beautifully executed gilt kiri
mons strategically placed, front and back. (The kiri mon, or
paulownia crest, one of the most honored Japanese crests, also
relates to the legend of the mythical phoenix that perches only on
the branches of the paulownia
tree.)
This tsuba is in very good condition, with 2 kogai bitsu (opening for
the kogai and kozuka).
