A night in the summer when fireflies wink their light. In this scene, one of the fireflies is glowing to appeal for mating behavior. The exquisite moment at dusk is finely depicted on the decorative gold leaf background.

Fine decorative fan featuring two white rabbits under the gleam of the moon. The sumptuous gold background is producing a shimmering effect. An 18th century image of a Japanese Oni dressed as a priest and reciting prayers (Oni no Nembutsu), the meaning of which is open to a number of interpretations. The scroll is mounted in the tea ceremony style and would no doubt make for an enlightening discussion.
The image measures 13'' by 22'' (33.5 by 56 cm). The scroll measures 50'' by 25'' (128 by 63 cm).

The style featured meticulous realism of birds, flowers and animals coupled with a strong sense of volume imparted to trees and rocks, creating highly decorative works whose roots lie in Chinese bird and flower painting.

A six-fold screen in the style of the early Unkoku school. The Unkoku school was founded by Unkoku Togan (1547-1618), who in 1593 was given the use of Sesshu Toyo's studio, Unkokuan and took the artistic name 'Togan', which uses the first character of 'Toyo'. The ink landscape that extends across the low screen recalls many of Sesshu's works, not only in the sharp, heavy outlines but in the shapes of the rocks, buildings and figures and in the precise structuring of the landscape elements.

Stylized hanging scrolls featuring local birds rests on the plants such as willow branch as well as yellow sorrel.
The Artist Tsubaki Chinzan (1801-1854) was active during late Edo period (1603-1867).
