Published in 1691 (Genroku 4) during the reign of Higashiyama, the Golden Age of the Edo Period during which the arts flourished, this is a fine Japanese woodblock printed book being an illustrated compendium of Japanese poets. There are 48 pages printed in two distinct columns, each depicting a seated poet below with a poem above, faithfully replicating each poet’s original calligraphy and signature. Original pencil signed mixed media Japanese print by Tetsuya Noda (Japanese, b. 1940) titled Diary: March 19, 1970, 16/25, 1970. This print is in very good condition, with no condition issues to note, aside from some light wrinkling at the margins, and tape remnants on the reverse top margin. The image measures 16 ¼ by 16 ¾ inches, plus full margins.
Original pencil signed etching and aquatint by Ryohei Tanaka (Japanese, b. 1933) titled White Wall Village, 92/150, 1991. This design is illustrated at plate 486 of the Tanaka Ryohei Catalogue Raisonne.
