This is a fine kiseruzutsu set depicting one of Japan's beloved themes-the saru mawashi (monkey trainer) and his charge. The wood case is carved in relief with a gold lacquer, pensive monkey, the stag antler pipe case with the trainer, leash-in-hand, balanced on weathered rockwork and surrounded by pine. The size of Tabacco Ire: 6 3/8" Long x 2" Wide x 7/8" Thick. Very unuusal Japanese Tabacco Ire set. The pipe holding case made of Bamboo work with clasp made with tin plated on brass. Bamboo work done well weaving. Tabacco case made by silk brocde. It has brass part. The condition of Tabacco Ire, very good except some wear on back of string area and a couple of other place. And tin plate some worn. Dating from late Edo to early Meiji, 1850-1890.

A Japanese pipe case (kizeruzutsu) decorated on a deep red lacquer and lacquered *agiro ground with Chinese bell flowers (kikyo) on one side and a waterlily on the other side. It is attached to a stylish leather pouch with a clasp of mixed metal beans. Some damages on lacquer. Late Edo/Meiji period. *Ajiro is a woven wickerwork made out of strips of bamboo skin, cypress bark or Japanese reed.

The size of Yatate: 7 3/4" Long x 1 1/2" Wide x 1 3/8" High. Beautiful Japanese Bronze Yatate. Yatate is portable brush and ink holder. This Yatate is made by fine heavy bronze. It has the work of brass at the ink pot. This type Yatate was used by Poet(Haijin) or Gajin(artist/painter). It is signed on the lower back at brush holder. Yatate has bronze Suzu(bell). The condtition of Yatate is excellent. No repair, no chip. Just little used condition in ink pot. Dating from Edo period.
