A bronze vase of baluster form, inlaid and overlaid with multi-metals and colored enamels on a copper-patinated surface. A brilliantly chiseled sparrow, its body silver and gold dives in mid-air through blossoming sakura branches. The spontaneity of the carving and richness of the multi-colored metals heighten the drama on this piece. The vase is in very good condition. Height: 14.5 Meiji Period, Japan

Exceedingly rare buddhit bronze temple lotus mizubachi from Nishi-Hogan-ji temple in Kyoto. Used to catch the rain from the huge temple tile roof, it is a very large bronze lotus shape with large lotus basin sitting on a lotus stand. A spout exits the water caught from the rain eaves at the temple. On the bottom of the upper basin is the nengo or date.
