A sweet little lacquer shallow bowel in red lacquer with a border of nine gold makie mums connected with silver lacquer vines. It measures 5 3/4" diameter and is 1" deep. It is in fine condition - with a few light usage scratches in cavetto. We date it to the Taisho to early Showa period, circa 1925- 1950s.

This is a very handsome pedestal cake table, possibly for use in the tea ceremony. The top of the table is an orange/red lacquer that has been combed to look like a series of wave. The style is very similar to that of Shibata Zeshin (1807-1891), one of the most noted lacquer ware artists in Japan. The red waves round section it surrounded by a wide band at the rim of black roiro lacquer.

This is a fine little three piece Japanese inro with a base lacquer color of orange/red. Over that red base, there is a relief design of a sliver and black carp leaping out of the water – it has two tiny pieces of gold makie on its right fin. The other sides has a design that appears to be the tail of a carp diving into the waves – notice the silver scales on the lower section where the fish enters the waves. Elegant and dramatic, this lacquer shrine (butsudan) is easily dissembled put together by one person. It is in excellent condition and retains several hidden drawers and compartments, as well as its gates, doors and slides for offerings and flower arranging. Urushi lacquer and kinpaku gilding are employed in great detail. Meiji Period, late Nineteenth Century. Approximately 44 inches by 20 inches by 16 inches deep.

Japanese 20th century pair of lacquered HIBACHI. The HIBACHI were made in the 1930's or 40's. A wonderful pair of red and mustard gold lacquer in the design of stylized red petals coming down over the mustard gold lacquer. Each HIBACHI measures 10 1/2" tall and 11 1/2" in diameter.
