An unusually large Buddhist prayer table gilded in genuine gold with a multilevel base carved with panoramic scenes enclosed in a period wooden box. The table rises from a rectangular base on curving legs to a diaper of pierced scrollwork. From there it reaches a plateau upon which rests the black lacquered table top lacquered with vine-work and featuring ornate scrolling ends. Rare Antique Japanese choba tansu (merchant's chest) made all of hinoki wood, rare because of its unusually tall configuration, from the Mikuni Area, upper sliding panels cover a compartment with one shelf, lower sliding panels have horizontal slats and cover 4 interior drawers, heavy iron hardware with square shaped handles, 2 long drawers on top, 3 smaller drawers along bottom, 19th century.

Nothing shines like real gold, and this superior maezukue prayer table covered in genuine gold leaf supports that statement. The piece rises on scrolling legs from a base cut through with fretted filigree, the same pattern repeated trellis-like in the diaper between the legs. Shishi prance across the mottled Kiri-wood surface of this Momoyama to early Edo period Koro in gold and silver maki-e and mother of pearl inlay. A copper insert contains the fragrant incense ash. There is a hand forged iron staple top and bottom of one ancient crack testament to age. It likely once had a silver hoya (cover) which has disappeared over the centuries.
