A pair of gold-lacquer, covered incense boxes of mokko-form with inner containers and trays on footed, roiro and gold-lacquer stands. All are decorated with exquisite landscapes utilizing multiple lacquer techniques depicting huts and pavilions beside rolling waters, takamaki-e rockwork and pine, interiors and undersides executed in nashiji (densely sprinkled gold, simulating "pear-skin"). This is a globular shaped Japanese lacquer kogo – covered box – with a lovely decoration in mixed lacquer techniques. The bottom is flat so as to prevent it rolling. The size of Inro: 3 15/16" Long x 2 1/8" wide x 1 1/8" Thick. Very Unusual Fine Japanese Makie Inro with carved Tsuikoku and Tsuishu. It has an ascending dragon design and clouds done in Tsuikoku on Tsuishu background of stylized waves design. Reverse side has descending dragon in same manner carving. Four cases inro. This a a very handsome miniature Japanese lacquer kogo – covered box – that has an unusual shape in that it is an oblong oval with two curved indented sections in two sides that give it a striking appearance. The entire kogo has a nashiji sprinkled gold base – known as pear skin – and then there are low relief makie flowers on the tops and sides. The base and inside are solid nashiji gold lacquer.

The size of Kogo: 3" Dia x 1 1/4" High. Amazingly fine detailed Japanese Makie Kogo(incense box). The kogo is made with fine wood(persimon?) and finely carved, the cover and bottom part fit perfectly. It has extraordinary work of gold takamakie of two puppy dogs with silver and gold finish as well as the vines over pine tree. One dog with silver makie and other with gold makie.
