Estimated from late 19th to early 20th century, exquisitely crafted Japanese ship sea chest made of Zelkova wood outside and paulownia wood inside. It has zelkova wood money box including paulownin box inside. The front lock and center inside drawer's lock work fine with keys. Keys for inside right and left drawers are missing. Overall condition is very good with such beautiful patia. Highly recommended quality article.

This strikingly handsome Edo (Tokyo) style “naga hibachi” (long firebox) is made from wonderfully grained burled keyaki (zelkova) wood. Meiji period, late 19th century. The mortise-and-tenon, dove-tail and mitre joinery is indicative of very fine craftsmanship, and the keyaki wood has a rich mellow patina resulting from years of exposure to heat and smoke. Japanese antique dark hardwood cha tansu (tea chest), beautifully simple with wonderfully carved details and rounded edges, stepped display shelves with cut out carved railing with bamboo motif, upper portion has compartment with sliding panels, lower portion has 3 drawers, 2 compartments with opening doors one of which has an interior shelf, a space on top over the sliding door compartment is carved with the objects symbolizing the lucky gods, Meiji/Taisho Period (early 20th century).
