Beautiful and dramatic Japanese antique isho tansu (clothing chest), from the Sendai area of Japan, made with kiri (paulownia) wood front and sugi wood frame, original deep red / orange translucent lacquer finish with wonderful patina especially around the hardware, front of frame is lacquered black, heavy iron hardware with chrysanthemum shaped lock plates with flurishes of leaves, moko shaped iron handles, Edo Period (early 19th century).

Rare Japanese antique 2 section mizuya tansu (kitchen chest) from the Kansai area, front made all of keyaki (elm) wood with beautiful grain, lovely original finish in a medium / light golden brown translucent lacquer, iron hirute shaped handle hardware, sliders with vertical keyaki slats, Meiji Period (1868-1912).

19th century Japanese single-section lacquered wood isho tansu (clothing chest) with black iron hardware and locks with floriate buttons, bronze hirute handles, and featuring fourteen drawers of assorted sizes. Each side has one iron side lift carrying handle. 30 3/4"H x 36"W x 16"D. Very good overall condition with the original lacquer finish and intact hardware. Antique Japanese two-section four drawer pawlonia (kiri) wood tansu with recessed side carrying handles and bronze hardware. 40 1/2"H x 36 3/4"W x 16 1/4"D. Taisho Period (circa 1920). Designed for the storage of clothing, this is a highly functional piece of solid wood furniture in very good overall condition and with a nice aged patina.
