This is an early 1900’s two-piece kitchen chest. The beautiful lacquer finish enhances a rich keyaki matched grain. The pine frame has a deep rust lacquer finish. The drawers and sliding panels are slightly warped, needing repair.

Japanese antique fune tansu or fune bako (merchant's ship safe box), made of keyaki (elm) wood with very heavy iron hardware especially on the front, details of the ironwork include raised flower blossoms on the corners, bamboo, rectangular area with a flower, large lock plate with double lock, 5 large hinges, The interior has 5 drawers of different sizes made of kiri (paulownia) wood, two of these interior drawers have lock plates, Edo Period.

2 section Japanese antique display tansu with with sliding glass doors, top section has sliding glass panels and one compartment with one shelf, bottom section has smaller compartment with one shelf covered by sliding glass panels, on the very bottom is a row of 3 drawers, beautiful hinoki wood (Japanese cypress), iron hardware with moko shaped drawer pulls and corner bracing on drawers, mortise and tennon joinery and horizontal wooden bracing on sides, Meiji Period.

This early 1900’s Kyoto style hibachi is crafted from beautifully grained keyaki wood. It has a copper liner and heavy iron insert. The piece has wonderful joinery with drawer fronts that combine keyaki and persimmon woods. Very good condition.
