Japanese bamboo flower basket with red lacquer on the rim, bottom and handle, woven of split bamboo. The part of upper handle is woven trebly. The little lacquer paint is coming off in some places by old age, but it is good condition and old taste. It is one of master works from Meiji period. Measurements about : 37cm wide and 42.5cm tall.

This large elegant vintage Japanese flower basket (“hanakago” or “hanaire”) has been very finely plaited and woven with thin strips of split bamboo. Dating to the early 20th century, the bamboo handle is marked with a three-character signature of noted artisan “Chikuyosai." It was crafted in round tapered form with meticulous and minute weaving.
