The three panel form of this vase is quite unusual and it is nicely decorated with butterflies, phoenix birds, chrysanthemums and a dragon. It measures 9.75" x 5.75" and dates about 1910 - 1920. There is damage on one corner, but it does detract significantly from the aesthetic of this piece.

A fine early Japanese cloisonne vase with a very complicated design. It is clearly an early Meiji example because of the many tiny cloisons used to hold the ground glass in place during the firing process. The vase has two large reserves – one a picture of a flower on a blue gin bari ground. (Gin Bari is a use of foil under the glass to produce the shiny effect and was introduced at a later date – this is probably one of the earliest examples of its use). The other reserve is in standard cloison... Click for details

The decoration of this vase has an unusual design in which the the neck is used as the flower pistil. The petals extend out in ginbari style work over a light cobalt ground. The impressed mark on the underside appears to be Ota. The condition is excellent with only a small spot of discoloration under the glaze. It dates early 20th century and measures 5" x 3".

$125.00

A small Japanese cloisonne vase with a solid black ground on which are seen two white flying cranes. The vase measures 3 1/4" high by 3" diameter at the widest. We date this to the early Showa period, circa 1930-1950. It has Made in Japan stamped on the bottom base rim. It is in excellent condition with a couple of light scratches on the back. The crane in Japan is one of the mystical or holy beasts (others include the dragon and tortoise), and is said to live for a thousand years.

A softly elegant Japanese cloisonne dish with a light ground in the center and a pale blue ground around the border. The center design is a subtle depiction of five groups of yellow berries with small green leaves. The border has a blue, white and green geometric floral design. The back of the dish is a design of scrolls karakusa on a light green ground and the center of the base is an aqua color. We date the piece from the late Meiji to early Showa period, circa 1910-1930's. It measures 7 1/4"... Click for details

This is an example of the earliest Japanese cloisonnι. It is interesting because of the shape – the top of the jarlet is a rounded square – which then merges into globular shape all the way to the bottom. The design is that of many small flowers surrounded by tiny tight cloisons – then the top has a design of white cloisons that form a drape of white lappets. The jarlet measures 4” in diameter at its widest and is 2 Ύ” high. We date it to the early Meiji period, circa 1870s-1880s.... Click for details
