A large and rather unusual vase of Bizen-ware in ball-shaped form by the young artist Watanabe Takuma. The piece is made by overlapping bands in low relief interspersed with sections decorated with patterns emulating weaving. It has the typical Bizen earthern colours with patches of grey. A thick sided gosu Mentori Chawan by Kawai Toru enclosed in the original signed wooden box. The bowl is quite large, with deeply sculpted sides covered in rose with iron rim and base. Inside is crackled white with some infusion of color with use. The box is a dome-lidded Shiho kiri box of fine quality, titled and signed within. A thick green shizen-yu ash glaze covers the form of this heavy walled Shigaraki pot by important artist Otani Shiro enclosed in the original signed wooden box. Never redundant, the Shigaraki clay bursts colorful under the intense flame. Tea‚’-drops of green glass wrap liquid about the body, exposing the red burnt clay and shell forms left where it sat on its side in the kiln.
