A Hirado okimono of Hotei holding up a lidded cup in his left hand. The piece is all white and the base has the extremely smooth unglazed texture so characteristic of Hirado - another telltale sign of Hirado okimonos. It measure 2 1/8" high by 2 3/4" wide by 2" deep. Excellent condition with no chips, hairlines or restoration. We date the piece to the late Meiji Period circa 1890-1915. This classic Japanese blue and white porcelain (“sometsuke”) dish with scalloped edge is decorated with a hand painted “mijin karakusa” design and five large flower blossoms in underglaze blue on a white ground. The milky white body is decorated with six underglaze blue fan designs which depict scenes of bamboo, iris, prunus, Mount Fuji and pine trees. A mid Meiji pair of mirror image Hirado candlesticks molded like two small children (karako). Each boy is holding a spray of large leaves with finely detailed multi petal flowers. All of the underglaze blue is in the classic Hirado blue. The two sticks measure 6 1/1" high by 3 1/4" wide by 2 1/2" deep.
