The center of the dish has a design of three men in a boat on a lake in a lake surrounded by hills – one of which has a small house on it. A raised ridge highlights this central area. Dating from Bunka Bunsei Late Edo, 1800-1820.

A handsome Arita domed bowl with a design based on an old Chinese motif called "cracked ice". The theme is meant to symbolize Spring with the design on plum blossoms (prunus) falling on an ice covered pond or lake that is beginning to thaw and crack. A charming Japanese bulbous studio vase dating from the Taisho to early Showa period, circa 1929-1940. The design is that of lotus flowers done in a hazy impressionistic style. There are a number of Kanji characters on one side which appear to be a poem. A colleague of mine has provided a loose translation as “"Dew drop will become Jewel”.
