A slab molded Oribe dish dating from the late Edo to early Meiji period. The top of the dish has been glazed with a tan glaze and then had a muslin cloth imprinted on it. The characteristic dark green Oribe glaze was then applied to the sides and dripped down towards the base of the dish. On the bottom, the dish is unglazed and has an unusual feature of parallel stripes that were made either with the potter’s fingers or a spatula type tool. A fine and again boldly glazed henko-jar by Mashiko great Murata Gen(1904-1988); this one is very similar in form to most of Murata's jars, yet the glazing scheme is quite unusual with a nuka base, iron brush sweeps and an iron glaze lip and flowing patches, overall a great example of a Murata jar. In perfect condition, 24.5cm.talx20x15, signed on base.

These superior quality Japanese iro Nabeshima porcelain dishes with sloping sides are boldly hand painted in polychrome enamels on a pure white ground. The mark of Imaizumi Imaemon is painted in underglaze blue within the foot ring. We believe these dishes to be by either Imaemon XII (1897-1975) or early Imaemon XIII (1926-2001), which would date them to the mid to late 20th century. In striking contrast to the clear white porcelain body, the front of each dish is simply and subtly decorated wit... Click for details
