A smaller six-fold screen dating to the early 17th century depicting themes from 'The song of everlasting sorrow', a narrative poem by the Chinese poet Bo Juyi (772–846) of the Tang dynasty. A shirasagi or white heron depicted with great naturalism against a backdrop of shimmering reeds. Gofun, a gesso-like substance made from ground shell and animal glue, has been used to detail the hero, whilst malachite brings the reeds to life.
Original brocade patterned with abstract clouds frames the painting. Ivory rollers. There is one area of noticeable discoloration at the top left and one band of lighter discoloration running horizontally through the heron.

Dated March of 1927, this greater Taisho period kacho-e painting is the work of an as yet unidentified artist named Hosetsu.
