From our Indian Subcontinent Collection, a beautiful vintage Indian silk sari executed in a rich fuscia colored silk and using silver threads woven into floral and geometric motifs.
Size and Condition: This is a tremendous piece measuring 179 inches (15 feet) long and 44 inches (3 1/2 feet) wide. Due to its size it is rather cumbersome to photograph, and so the photos are showing the piece folded and at only a... Click for details

From our Indian Subcontinent Collection, an extremely fine and beautiful Mughal - style silk rug executed in the “tree of life pattern,” with various pairs of fauna and flora in the center medallion, and flanked by additional flora and geometric motifs in the border areas. Woven with a veritable kaleidoscope of rich but subtle shades of mint, peach, burgundy, brown, cream, taupe, and burnt orange colored silks, this is a very elegant and sophisticated piece that can be used either as a floor ru... Luscious all hand spun and woven with gold threads, panel from a vintage Varanasi, Indian wedding sari, circa 60 to 70 years old. I would describe the colors as pigeon blood ruby red with subtle gentian floral scrolls intermingled with the gold thread medallions, which I might add is made of genuine low karat gold metal. This is double backed on cotton and silk with a “raw” silk border and polyester end trims. There are a few threadbare areas but with the silk backing they are... Click for details
Absolutely fabulous ( I would only say this if I don’t care if it sells and am happy to keep it for my own collection ) old and rare Angami Naga, three paneled shawl with anthropomorphic cowry shell design, woven by the Meitei of the Manipur State of India and used as a trade/tribute cloth to the Nagas. The exact reason of why these blankets are given to the Naga is a bit obscure. One source says that they are given by a Meitei Raja to a Naga chief for services rendered but as to what ... India
Early 20th century (1910-1940)
Fine silk and couched metal embroidery on gauze. Similar shape to a tea cozy, so perhaps was intended to cover something. Very good condition. 14" x 10".
19th and early 20th century luxury-cloth fragments - some with old metal embroidery - with beads, buttons, shells, mirrors and tiny metal discs. Many of these so-called “crazy quilts” have been created for the export market, with this being an excellent example of that craft. Excellent condition, but missing a few mirrors. 39”x 53”.
Old and rare Angami Naga shamilami design, three paneled shawl woven by the Meitei of the Manipur State of India and used as a trade/tribute cloth to the Nagas. The exact reason of why these blankets are given to the Naga is a bit obscure. One source says that they are given by a Meitei Raja to a Naga chief for services rendered but as to what these services are I don’t know. Perhaps the service rendered is not coming out of the hills to raid the more peaceful and civilized valley dwelling... Click for details
