A large lost wax casting in bronze of an elephant with attending mahout, an elaborate howdah on its back. Within the howdah can be found a figure seated on a swing, he is carrying an offering. Details: A good classic example of a Rajasthani stele of Umamaheshvara in green stone. The Hindu god Shiva relaxes in his mountain home, with his consort Parvati ('The Daughter of the Mountain') seated on Shiva's left leg in an embrace. The multi-armed Shiva is identified by his attributes, a three-headed Naga in his left hand and the remains of a trident in his right hand. Details: A fine quality example of an Indian sandstone head of a Jina. The Tirthankara’s attractively plumb and blissfully contented face is superbly carved with real flair and expression. His bow-like eyebrows are well defined and delicately raised above a pair of well executed thin almond shaped eyes. The Jina’s face is round with chubby cheeks, a hooked Indic nose and a beautifully chubby chin below his full smiling lips, all surmounted by attractive tiers made up of tightly budded shell-like... Ganesh, the Hindu God of Wisdom, is revered by the entire religion regardless of sect, and is depicted here atop a tiered double lotus throne, in one of his typical incarnations with his easily recognizable elephant head, regal headdress, and accompanied by a snake and his rat transports.

From our Indian Subcontinent Collection, a superbly carved sandalwood buddha from the city of Jasailmer in the Rajasthan region of India. This buddha sits in padmasana (interlocking lotus position) upon a double lotus base while displaying vitarka mudra with the right hand, and holding what is probably a kalasa pot in the left hand.
