This gilt copper Tara is one of a number of statues which can be attributed to the Khasa Malla kingdom of West Nepal. Characteristics which support this attribution include the red pigment used on the reverse, the black painted hair and the style of the Visavajra on the base plate.
The statue’s fingers on the outstretched hand had a casting flaw which was hidden by a cast replacement which has subsequently been lost, also at some point the statues lotus throne has been split in two and crudel... Click for details
