The Buddha Gallery
At Auction
Very large and powerful Tibetan fierce deity. Stands an impressive 18 inches tall, 19 inches on custom stand. I believe this piece may have once looked very different, and may have gone through a fire or other disaster (likely as part of the cultural revolution in the 1960's). I think it may have been extensively repaired using copper from other damaged sculptures...

Dragon's Pearl
$1,900.00
The expression of Sakyamuni is beautiful and serene. Clearly carved by a master artist. The image is made of one single piece of precious, dark purplish zitan wood. These type of wood images were made of different parts and assembled ( it can be seen by the holes where the various parts would have been stacked together ). Unfortunately the arms and lower part of the body has been lost but it is still a very charming piece! Fixed on a newer hardwood stand. Tibet, 16–17th cent. H 14,5 cm...

Silk Road Gallery
SOLD
This low folding table from Tibet is covered on three sides with intricate gesso in foliage and textile patterns, giving it richness and depth. The wear on the table suggests it was used in a monastery as an altar since the gesso work shows minimal wear but the top obviously was heavily used over a long period of time. Folding tables such as this also traveled with monks and nomadic families although this one does not appear to have spent time lashed on the back of a yak...

Silk Road Gallery
SOLD
This 18th century Tibetan painted table has three collapsible sides that fold under the top, making it portable and practical for a way of life built around long pilgrimages. The spirit of monks and whole families traveling across mountain passes is evoked in the design and still-vivid colors of this table. It may have been the only item of furniture owned by a nomadic family. Or it may have been carried on the back of a yak with monks on their way to visit remote villages...
