An intriguing black ground tangka (nakthang). Distemper and gold on cloth with a brocade mounting. The wrathful or protective deity (dharmapala) Begtse. He holds a sword in his right hand and a heart (from an enemy of Buddhism) in his left hand. He stands in alidhasana and is trampling a horse with his right and a human body with his left foot. Begtse is an important guardian of the Geluk order. In good condition. Tibet. Size:107cm. x 67cm. The image itself:60 x 50 cm.

A complete illustrated Tibetan / Mongolian block print of the Rin-hbyun. This pantheon of the five hundred Gods of Narthang consists of three parts: The rin-byung (143 folios), the snar-thang (13 folios) and the vajravali (20 folios). The fourth Panchen Lama (1782-1853) gave a 'print benediction.' In good condition. Mongolia, 19th. century.

Vajradhara or Dorje Chang in Tibetan is the ultimate primordial Buddha or Adi Buddha according to the Gelug and Kagyu schools of Tibetan Buddhism. This fine example is from Tibet or possibly from Nepal. It is well proportioned and has very nice facial features. Please note the fine engraving on the back of the figure. The second pair (tarpana mudra)is sprinkling the ambrosia (amrita) contained in the bowl in his lap. In the other hands: sword, bow, arrow.
