Oil lamp used for Hindu religion rituals, with an elaborate decoration representing on the front goddess Lakshmi, in her Gajalakshmi form, (anointed by two elephants) and, on the sides two small characters and geometric design. On the back, the lamp is decorated with a relief design also representing goddess Lakshmi in a Gajalakshmi form. Bronze, fine green patina. India, early XIXth century. Heioght: 13.2 cm. Very good condition.

A BIRD FORM OIL LAMP, INDIA, 18TH CENTURY.

The bird, possibly a parakeet, forms the oil reservoir of a small suspended oil lamp. Similar birds are illustrated in Mark Zebrowski’s “Gold, Silver and Bronze from Mughal India”, some dating as early as the 16th century. This seems to be a very old example also and so a possible dating to 17th to 18th century seems cautious but fair.

An Indian bronze libation vessel in the form of a conch shell. It has a wonderful old patina and dates at least from the 18th century.

3.7/8 inches (9.8 cm) long. Fine and undamaged.

This 18th century Tibetan painted table has three collapsible sides that fold under the top, making it portable and practical for a way of life built around long pilgrimages. The spirit of monks and whole families traveling across mountain passes is evoked in the design and still-vivid colors of this table. It may have been the only item of furniture owned by a nomadic family. Or it may have been carried on the back of a yak with monks on their way to visit remote villages...

The curved blade and hilt are cast in one piece and must have had some kind of ceremonial use. Probably Mughal Indian or Indo Persian in origin and exhibiting decent age, I would think 18th century or earlier.

18th Century Tibetan Rudra Chakrin, King of Shambhala Thangka, 43.5 x 25.5 inches, 91.5 x 66 cm. Most of these thangka were photographed through glass frames, so there may be a little blurriness. This thankga was in an exhibition at the University of Texas Art Museum.
