A Nepalese Buddhist ritual book dating to the late 19th/early 20th century. The book consists of 6 sheets of mulberry paper each folded concertina like into 3 pages. On one side there is the ritual text and on the other 3 painted miniatures of Buddhist tantric deities. I think the book is complete, well at least the front and back sheets are present. The condition is as shown in the pictures and the price reflects this.

Finely modeled figure dressed with sanghati, decorated in incised fashion, with hands in dhyana/meditation mudra, and seated on lotus throne. The face with urna is exceptionally well done. There is damage to the back of the curled headdress, some surface degradation and a number of tiny holes - none of which detract from the aesthetic appeal of this piece. From a private collection and acquired in Asia during the early 1960's. Measurements: H 16", W at widest point 10 1/2".

A Southern Indian Brass Lota with chiseled and incised decoration of animated, turbaned figure in roundel repeated around the girth on a ground of saz vine with palmettes above a band of acanthus vine and birds. An inscription is stippled along the everted rim. Good condition - over cleaned, probably belying some greater age. The interior testifies as much with deep, even natural oxidation from use over time. Height: about 5 13/16 inches (14.76 cm)
