Bi faced "ghurra" (churning rod holder) finely carved to represent a back to back, squatting, human couple, man opposite woman. Wood, with nice dark brown glossy patina. The ghurra was carved in Nepal, and is nicely mounted on a custom metal stand. Its height (without the stand) is 22.7 cm. Very good condition. NOTE: The ghurra is a tool which has been used for centuries by Nepali people for churning milk into butter...

Vishnu, a major god in Hinduism and Indian mythology, is depicted on these mid-20th century shutters from the Indian state of Rajasthan. The god is shown in traditional fashion, with four arms and holding four symbolic items--a conch shell, lotus, wheel and mace. The decorative interior shutters have iron hinges, hasp and chain. I would describe the colors as pigeon blood ruby red with subtle gentian floral scrolls intermingled with the gold thread medallions, which I might add is made of genuine low karat gold metal. Classic Nepalese representation of the Boddhisattva Padmapani Lokesvara personification of compassion. This attractive gilt bronze statue has seen ritual use, the gilt is worn in places and though the figure has been lightly cleaned the remnants of smoke and ritual substances still adhere to the figure. The bronze is 20th century in date, collected in Nepal in the 1970's. It measures 7 inches in height.

Rare strand of “drum” shaped white glass beads from the Naga ethnic group Assam, India, strung on hand made hemp cord. These are old beads and will date them conservatively pre 1950, please note the two round shaped beads are Chinese “Peking” glass beads 19th century.
