A Chinese pearl shell card case carved in the Canton style with figures in pavilions, pagoda, boat and flora. It is metal mounted. A pearl shell example is rare although ivory and wood are more commonly available.In very good condition. age; late 19th.C. size: 3 3/5inches (9.5cm) long , 2 1/8inches (5.5cm wide); 1/2 inches 1.3cm thick.
A nice quality dressing table mirror in European form, the shield-shaped back boldly engraved with a writhing dragon. Within the coiled dragon is a shield cartouche lightly engraved with the initials DRM. The glass is the original bevelled mirror. On the side there are three maker’s hallmarks. Probably dates from around 1900.

DESCRIPTION: A large, ten pronged tortoise shell comb made for the European market (Victorian era, circa 1880-1890). The fashion of the day included large elaborate combs placed in upswept hair, and this one is a real beauty! The curved prongs and scalloped crown are from a single piece of shell which is mounted with three large round beads and two carved triangular designs.
