An attractive Chinese silk purse probably imperial from the imperial workshop. The bag in a shape of vase which means "Ping An" (peace and secure), worked on blue satin with colorful knotstitch and gold and silver wire, and both sides embroidered with flowers and butterfly, implicated the meaning of growth and transform. Each silk tassel is showing Chinese character "Shou" (longivity). Beautiful color combination.

Antique Chinese silk embroidered purse from the Qing Dynasty. The kidney shaped purse was made from yellow color silk satin ground and embroidered with silk thread using the satin stitch.

DESCRIPTION: A beautiful Yi minority tribe batik jacket and vest, originating from Yunnan Province. This special jacket would have been made by a bride to present to the groom on their wedding day, and then saved for festival wear. For this creation, hot wax was applied to the thick cloth in geometric designs consisting of a background of “wheels” edged in wide linear borders. A fabulous piece of black satin silk embroidered with seed pearls to create 2 bouquets and 3 individual flowers. This was custom made mid 20th Century Chinese and has about 2,000 seed pearls which are individually hand sewn. There are 3 sizes of small pearls in two different shades, two are a silvery dark grey/black color and the third is a medium black. The shape of these bound foot shoes, with their very pointed toes and high curved instep, identifies their origin as North China.
