A Chinese shadow agate Snuff Bottle of a whitish tan translucent color with black and brown moss-like inclusions on one side and a swirled pattern on the other. There are three lightly incised patterns that highlight the shadows and make them look like flying moths or insects with long feelers. There is a well formed and pronounced oval foot rim - no stopper – the bottle is extremely well hollowed - excellent condition – two very tiny nicks on the front side. A VERY FINE CHINESE ROCK CRYSTAL SNUFF BOTTLE, 19TH CENTURY.
The bottle is of flattened shield shape and beautifully hollowed. The stopper is coral set into gold. I haven’t had this tested but the collector from whom I obtained this bottle has believed this for the last 35 years! It certainly looks as if he is right. The rock crystal is beautifully hollowed and has been finished internally with a semi-matt finis... Click for details
Agate "shadow" snuff bottle with shadow inclusions that resemble three trapped moths - celadon nephrite jade stopper - rounded shoulder shape - flat base - late 19th to early 20th century - 2 ¾" high including stopper 1 ½" diameter at the shoulder, base is 1 " diameter. Excellent condition.
Interesting pale celadon nephrite jade snuff bottle carved in the shape of a fish - the tail somewhat flattened so that the bottle can stand on its end. Fully carved in the round with detailed fins and scales. Replacement stopper. Hollowed but not a particularly large cavity. Probably dates from mid 20th century. Measures 2 3/8" long - exclusive of stopper x 1 1/2" wide from bottom of fish to top of back fin x 7/8" thick. Excellent condition.
