This painted Chinese glass snuff bottle has a portrait of Emperor Xian Feng. The painting is done on the outside of the bottle with enamel paints. The calligraphy on the reverse panel translates from left to right as: Xian Feng Emperor. The top edge has a band of Greek Key figures and the sides have floral designs. The reign mark on the foot translates as being from the Xianfeng era of the mid-19th century – 1851-1861. However, the calligraphy is a modern style and the snuff bottle is modern – ... This is an unusual and amusing glass snuff bottle molded to look like a long Chinese cabbage. It tapers from a dark green end through progressively lighter greens and then ends in a pure white glass. The stopper is a yellow tip made of plastic. The bottle is well hollowed and is in mint condition. It measures 3” long with the stopper in and is 1 3/8” diameter at its widest. We date it to the mid to later 20th century, circa 1950s-1970s.
