A rare 18th/19th Century carved agate snuff bottle with, possibly later, silver and rose quartz stopper. On the stopper is inscribed the Shanghai silversmiths "Wen Yuan" who are recorded as having traded from the Jiaqing (1796-1820) reign through until the Republic period (1912- 1949). Condition - excellent - no damages or restoration. 5cm (2inches) high; 4.8cm (1.9 inches) wide.

DESCRIPTION: A vividly enameled porcelain snuff bottle, the clay deeply carved before firing to form nine foo dogs, each in different colors and positions, who frolic across the surface. The stopper is made from natural pink coral, and the bottle is stamped on the base in red characters. This delightful bottle dates from the latter Qing, 19th to early 20th C. DESCRIPTION: A good early Chinese jade pebble-form snuff bottle in rounded from of a celadon color nephrite with brown skin; very well hollowed all the way to the bottom and sides. Previous collector’s number on the base (removable). Excellent condition, later stopper, dating from the late 1700’s. DIMENSIONS: 3” long (7.6 cm).

DESCRIPTION: A well carved ivory snuff bottle with raised figures on each side and a green jade stopper. One side has a figure in flowing robes carrying a lantern and the other a Chinese warrior with sword and battle armor. The neck is decorated in a stylized leaf design while the sides are covered in carved diagonal squares. Excellent condition and dating from the Qing Dynasty. DIMENSIONS: 2 ¾” high (7 cm).

DESCRIPTION: A white bubble-glass snuff bottle with delicate purple glass overlays of Chinese coins encircled by bats with outstretched wings (a symbol of prosperity). The bottle’s lower shoulders are decorated with overlay masks, and the fitted cap is crafted from green jade. Excellent condition, no chips, very attractive; dating from the Qing Dynasty. Early rare form Hornbill snuff bottle with Tibetan silver and glass top - spoon. The bottle is especially interesting because it has a very early or perhaps original repair that was very well done. It is also a very rare shape for a hornbill bottle. The cloth wrapped around the neck looks to be handmade. The top is a silver - copper alloy typical of Tibetan silver. The glass inserts are also handmade. It measures 2 1/4 inches including the stopper. Date: Late 18th to mid 19th century.... Click for details
