This is a lovely orange/amber colored snuff bottle made of chalcedony. It is a nice size – measuring 2” high by 1 ¾” wide by 1 1/8” thick – not including the stopper, When held to the light there are some cloudy areas in the stone. The stopper is a white agate with streaks of rust orange and the spoon is made of bamboo. We believe it is possible that this could be the original stopper - there is a crack in the top piece. This is a handsome snuff bottle made of a material which we believe to be jasper, a form of quartz. Jasper is an opaque rock of virtually any color stemming from the mineral content of the original sediments or ash. Patterns arise during the consolidation process forming flow and depositional patterns in the original silica rich sediment or volcanic ash.

One of the most rare forms of Chinese snuff bottles are those made of organic materials - except for ivory. Among the other organic materials used, one of the most rare is bamboo. Because of is fragility when carved it is very difficult to carve without splitting the bamboo. Here we have a superb example of a bamboo snuff bottle in excellent condition. Fashioned from a single piece of vigorously patterned turquoise, this snuff bottle is of classic form with rounded sides, sloping shoulder, a high neck and raised footrim. The bottle is well-hollowed and fitted with a matching blue glass stopper mounted on a black glass rim. An excellent carved ivory and lacquer snuff bottle with its original and well-chosen stopper.
On one side is found Kannon (Guanyin) riding on a Shi-Shi, the other has a squirrel on a vine. The neck and sides embellished with lacquer. The bottle is well hollowed.
Extremely rare and historically significant snuff bottle of Hongxian the president of China, who was also the very last emperor, briefly in 1916. Reverse painted on glass with gold leaf background, this is a rare find and a treasure worthy for any serious collector.
