A rare and finely cast bronze Crane, "He", made in 16th/17th Century Ming dynasty China probably during the reign of either the Jiajing (1522-1566) or Wanli emperor (1573-1619). There are traces of red and black lacquer and it carries what is probably a makers mark which reads "Ri Xin" (please view enlargement 8). This is a superb marble carving of two Buddhist figures standing side by side – probably two acolytes. The carving measures 6” high by 6 5/8” wide and is 2 ¼” deep. The carving is loosely mounted on a custom made acrylic stand with padding that follows the contours of the base of the carving.
