Exceptionally beautiful is this circa 1880 red lacquer and gold gilt Quan Yin. She is standing on a double lotus plinth and holding a lotus spring in her left hand. Made of camphor wood, this statue is hand-carved with extremely fine detail and artistry. In very good condition, she stands 15" tall. You will not be disappointed.
Guaranteed authentic and of the period is this wooden of a lohan dating from the Ming Dynasty, 1368-1644. He is holding a pearl in his left hand. In his right hand is a legless creature resembling a frog whose tail wraps around the lohan's arm. There is evidence of gold gilt around the face, neck, hands and feet. The back of the seat or throne is slightly charred, but the burn is so old that it now has a nice patina. It measures about 14" (35.6 cm)tall and is in excellent condition for a woode... Circa 15th Century. A tiny bodhisattva standing on a lotus pedestal, one hand carrying a lotus blossom and the other in the gesture of charity. Small Buddhist figures were used in tiny portable shrines and altars throughout China since the introduction of Buddhism there. (The Japanese counterpart of the portable shrine is the “zushi.”) This bronze example is of a uniform blackened bronze, the surface and detail worn from use.
