DESCRIPTION: A handsome and rare Chinese cane, the knobbed tip crafted in repossee’ sterling silver with a continuous scene of a scholar and his boy attendant in a garden setting. There is a tiny, stamped hallmark at the base of the collar on one side (see photo 5). The upper zitan shaft is heavily carved in the round with figures, pavilions and pine trees; the purple undertones and “rabbit’s fur” grain of the zitan are unmistakable.
