A rare Chinese bronze Buddha with inscription

A rare find of a Chinese bronze Buddha. 7" high. Back bottom base has inscription but some words were missing, probably because of minor restoration. It shows names of donors in a special occasion. 15th C. to 16th C. Some red pigment remains. Bottom base has some erosion. Nice green patina and it's heavy for the size.

Han Dynasty (206 BC - 221 AD)

Of the usual hu-shape form with a globular body and tapered neck, flanked with a taotie mask ring-handle on either side. The fitted cover is decorated with three phoenix, which would serve as feet when the cover is removed and placed on the ground.

We date this piece to the late Ming to very early Qing Dynasty circa 1550-1725. The condition is excellent with fine patina. Liu Hai is a very important Chinese god who represents prosperity and wealth. He was a Minister and an alchemist in China in the 10th century who became friend of a three legged toad.
