DESCRIPTION: A handsome and rare Chinese cane, the knobbed tip crafted in repossee’ sterling silver with a continuous scene of a scholar and his boy attendant in a garden setting. There is a tiny, stamped hallmark at the base of the collar on one side (see photo 5). The upper zitan shaft is heavily carved in the round with figures, pavilions and pine trees; the purple undertones and “rabbit’s fur” grain of the zitan are unmistakable. A small twin-handled bronze censer, finely casted and with good patina. The base carries a rare two character seal script mark which reads "Cang Ju". It was probably made in the 17th Century, during the late Ming or early Qing dynasty. This item is from the collection of a British architect who was born in China and lived in Shanghai. It came to the UK with him in 1931. Condition - excellent - no damages. 10cm (4 inches) across; 5.5cm (2.5 inches) high. Weight - 425gm (15oz).

The lid of this large round Qing dynasty paktong handwarmer has a lovely openwork pattern containing a central shou medallion surrounded by five bats, the symbol of happiness and longevity. Dating to the mid-19th century, this handwarmer is made of the silvery alloy paktong (“pai-tung” or “baitong”). DESCRIPTION: A Chinese silver chatelaine needle case with raised repossee’ and hand etched decorations, one side depicting three male immortals, the other a squirrel on grape vines. This beautiful vase-shaped needle case would have been suspended from a lady’s belt or sash by the hook at the top, this hook decorated with a silver bat for good luck.
