DESCRIPTION: A lovely Chinese display stand with scroll feet and pierced side aprons, all hand carved from one piece of beautifully grained rosewood. An estate piece that probably dates from the Republic Period (1911 – 1949), it is in excellent condition, and would make a splendid display stand for sculpture, bonsai or collection pieces. DIMENSIONS: 15 ½” long (39.4 cm) x 7 7/8” (19.6 cm) wide and 3” high (7.6 cm).
Chinese elmwood foot stool with a lattice patterned top. The wood has a slightly red stained appearance. Late 19th century. 24 1/2"L x 12"D x 7 1/4"H. Very sturdy construction in good overall condition. Some minor cracks and slight warping consistent with its age and use. This piece would also function nicely as a display table.

This large basket, made of bent wood with red lacquer and cast iron fittings, seperates into four compartments. The interior is covered in lacquered cloth, a technique more common to older pieces, so it may be a bit earlier.

The early 19th century panels on this graceful fretwork screen are centered with carved roundels, each with a different vignette of a bird and flowers. An unusual pattern of curved, carefully fitted fretwork with finely done carvings of endless knots, urns, flowers and nature dragons recalls the style and iconography of ancient Chinese bronzes. Chinese opera scenes are painted on the sides and lid of this late 19th century Chinese trunk. The octagon shape of the container, traditional for Chinese shoe trunks, is echoed in the octagon-shaped borders on the paintings. Such trunks quite often had a background color of turquoise, the hue on this one, or of very dark green, although we have seen them in black and bright blue as well. Once part of a Buddhist temple in Western China, this early 19th century panel has graceful fretwork in a 17th century Ming pattern. The natural elm wood is a rich red/gold color with good grain.
