Rare antique two paneled bed cover from the Daizu ethnic minority of Southern Yunnan, China. An unusual piece with very fine silk embroidery and woven with what may be hemp/ramie handspun threads, as it has a slightly rougher feel than standard cotton thread. I would date this early 20th century with mostly natural dyes. There are small holes and tears throughout the piece as to be expected from an old textile from a tropical climate. L: 120cm/47in and W: 69cm/27in.

Fine and rare five paneled skirt, from the Meifu subgroup of the Li people Hainan Island, circa mid 20th century. This kind of ikat textile is unique among Chinese minority groups. The top panel on this appears to be recent as it is composed of brighter colored commercial cotton thread, bear in mind that hand weaving commercial thread is more difficult than handspun given that its is finer. Exceptionally fine and rare three paneled wedding blanket from the Tujia minority group Guizhou, China. This piece is an antique textile, dating late 19th to early 20th century employing a supplementary weft brocade technique to achieve the pattern. All threads are handspun cotton with some of the lighter colored brocaded pattern threads composed of silk. A Qing Dynasty lidded wooden box designed to serve pancakes combines handsome form with evidence of long use to evoke hundreds of banquets in late 18th/early 19th century China. DESCRIPTION: A Qing dynasty bamboo pipe, perhaps used for either opium or tobacco, with a bulbous body crafted from a large segment of giant bamboo.
