A CHINESE CANTONESE ENAMEL DISH, 18TH ~ 19TH CENTURY
The body of the dish is of a decent thickness generously enamelled with a chilong on a yellow ground. The borders design is quite distinctive and is often found on 18th century wares.

‘Basse taille’ is a term given to the use of reflective silver foil beneath the surface of the translucent enamel. In this example engraved silver flowers, now tarnished, can also be seen on the surface. The box was made in Canton, now Guangzhou, where a good harbour at the mouth of the Pearl River ensured a safe haven for European traders.

A well executed and finely painted Canton enamel bowl, with playful scenes of boys at play. Every detail is hand painted with thin layers of pigmented glass enamels; the subject matter was a favorite of the Empress Dowager Cixi. Comfortably dated to the 19th century and ready for display is this well preserved and unretouched Chinese antique for your pleasure. It measures about 6" wide x 3" high
This is a very handsome pair of Chinese Canton enamel dishes with a superbly painted design done in enamel over a copper base. Both dishes are dominated by paintings of an Imperial Dragon, five clawed dragons being reserved for the emperor. A pale green band then surrounds these dragons in cavetto and the outer rims have a design of flowers including a rose and two types of fruit – all connected by vines and leaves. The dish is decorated with enamels on a copper body, work associated with Canton (Guangzhou). Charming composition very well executed. Made for export to the West during the Qianlong period, 18th century.
An attractive blue ground Canton Enamel six lobed bowl with two reserves that are separated by with continuous scrolling green foliage and pink flowers executed in thick enamels. In one reserve is a painting of a young boy watching an elder fishing. The other reserve features two men sitting and talking - behind the man on the left is a brazier from which a snake like column of smoke arises.
