This tall baluster-form cloisonne urn from China is an artful presentation of the color blue--from tones of light powder through turquoise and violet to midnight. The blues are arranged on a white ground and sparked with touches of cinnabar red. Enameled on a brass base with brass wires, the blues portray scrolling foliage and flowers interspersed with classic Chinese repeat patterns (diaper). This PAIR OF CLOISONNE TEMPLE LIONS consist of two figures that are not exactly identical, but very similar in style and period. Each animal measures 11 inches long (nose to tail) by 6 inches tall and 4 inches in width.
They date to the 18th-19th Century.
They are in outstanding condition with the exception of a few extremely minor losses or repairs to the enamel.
They are covered with archaic sea plant designs throughout.

DESCRIPTION: Brightly colored in a floral pattern, this large Chinese cloisonne egg is an unusual and attractive object. The colorful enamels have been applied to the bronze base forming a design of lotus blossoms floating in swirling water. The background remains unfilled, exposing the mellowed bronze color. Impressive in size, it comes mounted on a wooden stand. Excellent condition with no losses found, first half 20th C. DIMENSIONS: 16” high (41 cm) with stand, 9 ½” diameter (24 cm).

A fine pair of Chinese cloisonné moon flasks each decorated with a water buffalo gazing at a frog in the water on one side, a domestic cat gazing at a butterfly on the other. The roundels are set in a ground of formal scrolling lotus. The necks are supported by gilt and enamel ruyi handles. The vases are dramatic in appearance due mostly to the unusual colours used.
