Good Jian type bowl from the Wuyi Shan kiln, Fuzhou, Southern Song Dynasty. Fine condition, no repairs or damage. Unlike ceramics from the Jianyang kilns, Wuyi Shan pieces have much thinner glazes with a brown slip or underglaze as well as light colored bodies and a better defined footrim. Song to Jin wide-mouthed squat jar (guan) with a short neck and flaring lip covered in a russet glaze with accents of dark brown over brown slip. The glaze extends into the interior and about 2/3 down the body leaving an unglazed base which reveals a smooth reddish buff body. The knife cut foot is slightly beveled inward.
