DESCRIPTION: An appealing jade carving of Hotei, the nephrite stone of a celadon color transitioning to brown toward the base. Probably the most popular of the Seven Gods, here he is depicted in the traditional style with his large ears and a happy, benevolent smile, standing upon his bag of riches with his loose robe revealing his corpulent belly. DESCRIPTION: A carved Chinese jade belt buckle, the nephrite stone of an off-white color with light and dark inclusions, each side carved with taoti, or monster masks, with the reverse of each having shaped knobs for fastening through slits in the belt. Very good condition, Qing Dynasty, 1644 – 1911. DIMENSIONS: 4 ¼” long (10.8 cm) x 1 ½” wide (3.8 cm).
