A Chinese ivory casket from the Canton region, the lid bearing a magnificent deeply carved panel, the sides each with a vignette and the whole standing on four bat-shaped legs. The quality of the carving especially that of the top panel is above average; it shows a scene of figures at leisure in pavilions, an equestrian rider and several swordsmen. A Chinese ivory card case carved deeply all over with figures in pavilions in a landscape of pagodas, flora shrubs etc. This Cantonese case is quite thick( 1.4cm) and in excellent condition. We can obtain CITES Export licence , if necessary. Age: C. 1870.size: 10.5cm long , 6.5cm wide and 1.4cm thick. Condition: very good, no restoration.

Old Chinese robed Budai image with characteristic elongated earlobes and fat belly standing on his bag of treasures, carved from a dense block of hardwood. Known as Hotei in Japan, and frequently referred to as the "Laughing Buddha," Budai is one of the Seven Gods of Good Luck and symbolizes prosperity and abundance. A finely detailed Chinese relief carving shows a bearded scholar in his courtyard surrounded by friends and family. He and his bearded associate sit at a table under the ornate roofs of the raised pavilion. Two children and several other figures are seen in other sections of the courtyard, which is enclosed by a low fence.
