DESCRIPTION: A Chinese jadeite pendant of flat rectangular form, the white colored stone infused with rich, dark green inclusions, and carved in the form of a bat upon a peach. In Chinese iconography, the bat is a symbol of good luck and the peach a symbol of longevity. Tendrils at the top form openings that make this pendant wonderfully suited for wearing as a necklace. DESCRIPTION: A Chinese mat weight or press, carved from one piece of dark stone with a lion on its haunches in its center. The lion bares its teeth and crouches with bold posture on a flat stone surface with four cartouches featuring etched designs of bamboo, banana, peony, and blooming lotus. Latter Qing dynasty (1850 – 1912) and in good condition with small chip to lion’s curled mane in rear view. DIMENSIONS: 10 ½” square (26.7 cm sq.) x 5” high (12.7 cm).

Chinese Qing dynasty ornately carved rootwood fly-whisk handle. Fly-whisks were carried by Buddhist priests to wave away flies which, according to Buddhist tenets, they could not kill. The fly-whisk is also a symbol of leadership. 19th century. 10 3/4" long. Very good overall condition with a nice patina. There are a few thin cracks visible in enlargement 4. This piece is from the private collection of American expatriates who lived in Hong Kong in the 1970s and 1980s.

DESCRIPTION: A Chinese nephrite carving of a recumbent ram, crafted from a celadon colored stone, with its head turned to one side and two young rams at his feet. The ram’s horns curl over his back and from his mouth he breathes a peach enveloped in clouds, a symbol of longevity. From a long held Philadelphia collection, the carving is in excellent condition and dates from the latter Qing Dynasty (late 19th/early 20th C.). DIMENSIONS: 4 ¾” long (12 cm) x 3” high (7.6 cm).
