DESCRIPTION: A very rare, early Sung Dynasty sculpture, crafted from a dark stone in the form of a "lotus boy" image, his head resting upon a gourd-like pillow, and knees bent. Neolithic Jade knife, the inward curved beveled edge on the “spine” of the blade indicates this is most likely Longshan Culture 2000BCE. The blade tapers from 3mm at the thickest point at the top of the “spine” to .5mm at the end of the “belly” edge. Although incredibly thin, this type of implement served no practical function and would have been used as either a ritual or burial object. The real meaning their use is lost to us through the passage of four millennia. Condition: Worn broken corner... Click for details
