$150.USD

Quirky bronze frog from China, 300BCE-200CE. Most likely this piece is Dian Culture centered in Yunnan or possibly Dong Son since frogs are common motifs with the Dian and Dong Son peoples. Chinese chroniclers described both groups as being Southern Barbarians during the Western Han expansion, like the Romans of the same period, I get the impression that the Dian were “vassal” states in name only and were probably paid off by the Chinese to leave them alone. As of yet no one in Chinese arch... Click for details

$160.00

A six-lobed bronze mirror of the Song Dynasty. Plain faced Song mirrors of this type were made in Huzhou, Zhejiang Province, while similar mirrors bearing makers' inscriptions (see Trocadero item 876962 in this catalog), originated in Jiangxi Province. While the foliate rim was common to Tang Dynasty mirrors as well, several characteristics of this example date it unmistakably to the Song. Tang mirrors—known in antique Chinese texts as “big nosed” Tang mirrors—typically had large, round center b... Click for details

The Bodhisattva Collection

Free with any purchase from our Early Chinese section

An excellent pictorial reference book focusing on tomb items from China's Golden Age with heavy concentration on Tang and Han Dynasty items, but Eastern Zhou, Warring States, Spring and Autumn, and Qin Dynasty Periods are covered as well. There are over 120 color photos, most pieces are bronzes and/or gilded bronzes, but there are also some jade and early pottery pieces represented as well. The text is also very informative. In our candid opinion, it's not enough of a reason to purchase an anti... Click for details
