Exceptionally rare Buddhist molded clay tablet from the Tang or possibly earlier. The sensuous curves of the attendant Bodhisattvas flanking the Buddha shows the obvious Indian influence on early Chinese Buddhist art, the Buddha holds his hand in the Dharma chakra mudra (teaching gesture) indicates there may have been a Tibetan influence as well. Fine and rare “winnowing fan” shaped high fired pottery inkstone. There is one shallow chip noted in enlargements otherwise; perfect condition! Please note I have left the original soil on this piece as some collectors prefer the “just excavated look”, I can have this piece cleaned at no extra cost for any prospective buyer.
